Subject: I had to reread this scene and think about it for a bit - the first time I read it for the bald face of things, but on a rereading it really is an incredibly poignant scene. I don't think anyone except Jamie blames himself for what happened to Geneva, but he is convinced to his soul that he is to blame. Knowledge of that guilt must add another layer to John's feelings when he becomes William's father in Jamie's place, yet it is never spoken of again between them. When John said 'my dear' I wonder whether he was referring to Jamie or Geneva, or if he even knew himself.
In reply to: kgp 's message, "I'm listening (again) to Brotherhood of the Blade and am at Geneva's funeral. John's encounter with Jamie in the chapel during the night just gives me chills. First, that Jamie was so remorseful and blaming himself for her death and then John figuring things out as he sat in the cold stillness letting the pieces fall into place - "Oh, my dear. What have you done?"" on 06:06:09 05/19/10 Wed
