Subject: "...half fear; half excitement..." Exactly what ran through me when I first read this scene. Part flagellation/ repentance for Jamie; part sexual thrill --our Lord John is very complex, isn't he?

  • Interesting scene, in more ways than one. It's one of the few times we see Lord John in a sexual situation where he is not the dominant partner. He seems to like to be the one in control -- but here he submits to Percy's suggestion without hesitation. I think that subconsciously he wants to be punished, for his part in having Jamie flogged. He has been feeling guilty about it since it happened ("flogging himself", so to speak). Will he ever speak of it to Jamie, do you think? To express his regret or his guilt over the incident, I mean. Or is this something that they would both prefer to ignore altogether? By the time Lord John tells Brianna the story of the Ardsmuir flogging in DOA, he has clearly come to terms with his role in it and is no longer feeling guilty -- I'm just wondering how/when/why that happened. Maybe we will find out in SCOTTISH PRISONER? (NT) -- Karen, 02:46:19 11/23/07 Fri
