Subject: The dictionary defines "perseverance" as "steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., esp. in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement." (from dictionary.com). It's no wonder that Percy dislikes the name. It doesn't really fit his personality, IMHO. He's not particularly singleminded or persistent, and he certainly doesn't commit himself wholeheartedly in pursuit of any goal. I think "perseverance" is a trait far more applicable to Lord John than Percy -- once Lord John has set his mind on a goal (for example, solving the mystery of his father's death), he is pretty single-minded about pursuing it.
In reply to: Conmama 's message, "Percy prickles at his given name. I enjoy the trust that these two men gave to each other in their emotional bonding. I love how John calls him Perserverance with tenderness and understanding. He's probably the only person who does call him that with any sort of love, and it's special between them. I really feel sorry for both of them because they both just want to love and be loved." on 06:57:55 11/07/07 Wed
