The stableyard 'aftermath' still doesn't really make sense to me, in spite of the discussions here, and Herself's own detailed exegesis. I haven't had the nerve to call attention to this one scene with my "GBF" though, since I'm still hoping he'll read more of the book and give me his reaction without having me steer it towards anything in particular.

And no, the revulsion isn't an historical artifact, but now we have constructed complicated layers of political correctness so sometimes the revulsion/phobia is cloaked and oppressive attitudes are expressed in less direct ways than hurling insults and/or fists.
