The following quote is taken from Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade by Diana Gabaldon, Chapter 34, Duchess of Pardloe. Copyright © 2007 by Diana Gabaldon. All rights reserved.

"I mean I didn't intend to kill him," she said indignantly. "What good would that do? Beyond the minor gratification of revenge, what would I want with his miserable little life?" she added bitterly.

"No. I meant to make him confess the crime"--she nodded toward the table, and Grey saw that besides the leather case containing Rigby's debts, there was a portable writing desk, as well--"and then let him go. He could leave the country if he liked; he would be exposed, he would lose everything that mattered to him--and I could give Gerry back his honor."

This quote brings us full circle for the week and to one more person who valued honor. The Duchess of Pardloe waited seventeen years, never letting the matter rest, never reconciling herself to Gerry's death, before finally being able to clear his name and restore his honor to him. In the meantime she did her best to keep her sons safe, even allowing his death to be believed due to suicide rather than murder. I loved her resourcefulness in gleaning information! She got the job done. Harry Quarry as the Sub-Genius--that was unexpected! *G*

Thanks to all who chimed in this week. It's always great to hear what hosers have to say. :-)
