Subject: I suspected this review would generate more comments at some point today! I decided to look up this reviewer, to see where he's coming from, since I am not a regular Post reader. A novelist himself, he reviews mainly books categorized as "thrillers", every Monday, and has a book out about the dominance of the thriller genre in mainstream fiction. I am intrigued that he chose to review this book at all. I doubt many readers on this board would consider it a "thriller," thrilling as we may find its hero and the character exploration contained in this book. I'm left wondering what it was about this book that caught this reviewer's attention. Links inside to info I found. DG has reviewed books for the Post too.
In reply to: DonnaF 's message, "This morning's Washington Post printed a review of Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade. You can read it at washingtonpost.com. Registration (which is free) is required for full access." on 06:32:20 09/17/07 Mon

Still pondering the content of his criticism, and whether I think the comments are fair (understanding that all book reviews are entirely subjective). He would not have published such a prominent review unless he liked the book enough to promote it. IMHO, it's not a huge slam that would hurt the sales of the book, and the fact that he talks about the book having sex in it could actually get people to want to read it, even though he's rather dismissive of her renderings of gay sex.

  • Hmm, stumbled across another review of BOTB on "All About Romance" of all places.... (link inside). Sounds like someone else who is in love with both John and Jamie... *g* -- pamelalass, 18:53:14 09/17/07 Mon

  • MEANDERING PLOT? What the heck is that woman talking about? Good thing she loves John and Jamie or I'd have to slap her. '-) (NT) -- Jane, 19:59:34 09/17/07 Mon

  • Thanks for the link, pamelalass. Wow, that website looks like one that I would love browsing over for a few hours at least! (NT) -- teddie (), 14:58:58 09/18/07 Tue
