I believe Hal's father was the Earl of Melton, Duke of Pardloe. Is that correct? So, you are saying that now that Hal is the Duke, he is addressed as Your Grace AND Lord Melton? Back in the day, men could hold more than one title - Duke, Earl, blah blah. Because the title Duke of Pardloe is tainted in Hal's eyes, he has refused it, and goes by his next highest title, the Earl of Melton. If John felt as Hal did about the whole thing, he would renounce his title as the younger heir of a duke, becoming the Honourable John Grey.
