Subject: I believe Hal's father was the Earl of Melton, Duke of Pardloe. Is that correct? So, you are saying that now that Hal is the Duke, he is addressed as Your Grace AND Lord Melton? And that it is also correct for John to be addressed as Lord John (because he's the younger son of a duke). so confused.
In reply to: Susannah 's message, "So is Hal an earl or a duke? Your Grace is correct for a duke, who would be Lord Whatever, and Lord-first-name would be correct for the younger brother." on 10:11:14 09/05/07 Wed

  • Also, my take on it was that he didn't like being addressed as "your grace" because of the taint of his father's supposed suicide. He was turning his back on the titles or something like that. (NT) -- Conmama, 11:20:31 09/05/07 Wed

  • Right. He is a duke (thus entitled to be addressed as "Your Grace") but he refuses to use the title because of his father's disgrace. (NT) -- Karen, 11:44:08 09/05/07 Wed
