Subject: Lord Melton?

I might be forgeting or missing something, but why is Hal referred to as Lord Melton? Would they both be Lord "____" Grey? And it seems like Lord John is the only one that calls him Hal. Is that a pet name or nick name? Thanks in advance!

Hal is short for Harold. As for the titles, he would have had a whole string of them. By choosing not to use his duke's title, he probably just moved on to the next one down, Lord Melton. For example, Prince Charles is Prince of Wales, but also Duke of Rothesay, Lord of the Isles, etc etc. (NT) -- Caroline B, 08:29:12 08/31/07 Fri

- This is addressed on p. 12. LJG uses the form of address for the younger son of a duke, which he is still officially entitled to. His brother Hal could do something similar, but he refuses.
