Subject: Considering what happens in that last scene where Jamie and Lord John are together, I find it very hard to imagine that they will ever become friends, let alone close friends. Yet we know it will happen, and within a relatively short period of time. I found the scenes with Jamie fascinating, sometimes heartbreaking, as at Geneva's funeral where we see him struggling to contain his grief (this scene actually brought tears to my eyes, thinking of how he's grieving for Claire). His comment to Lord John that "My life is not my own" reminded me strongly of his advice to Fergus in ABOSAA, "For their sake you must continue, even though you would not, for your own." Somehow he has found the strength inside himself to keep on living, but you get the sense that he is only existing, day to day. "Half a person", indeed.
In reply to: Caroline B 's message, "OK I have a question and I'd like to hear some opinions. What have we learned about Jamie from his appearances in this book? Anything new or surprising? While I was not surprised by his 'penance' for Geneva's death, I was surprised by the tone and language of his final conversation with Lord John. Any thoughts?" on 10:16:40 08/30/07 Thu

  • Does anyone know if Jamie makes an apperance in the next LJG book with the short stories? Maybe there will be a scene that shows how they became able to talk again. I agree that it is hard to envision it after that. (NT) -- Annabel, 17:01:00 08/30/07 Thu

  • I've heard that Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner will focus on the years at Hellwater after BOB. (NT) -- Jane, 20:42:41 09/01/07 Sat

  • The new short story in the trilogy; Lord John and the Haunted Soldier will be mostly centered around John's military trail where he is brought up on charges surrounding the cannon explosion in Germany. I can't tell you more here. I can only tell you this much because it is common knowledge. If you ask on the excerpt board, I could tell you what I know OR simply point you to the excerpts from Haunted Soldier that are there. (NT) -- Jane, 07:39:19 09/03/07 Mon
