I too reread this sentence a few times because I thought it was very ambiguous in it's meaning. I must admit that I thought he was just thinking that Yes, some demon had put those words in his head, but when I do go back & read it now , with the new insights I have just read here, I can definately see a sense of realisation in LJG's thinking, that someone had made J scream. So good to hear other people's take on things, it adds another dimension that otherwise would have been missed. -- LJG Discussion board

I really don't think John has any idea what happend to Jamie. I think that will be a big confessional scene in a future Outlander book.
