What happened is that bleaching your hair is TWO-step process (a lot of folks don't know this and end up in your daughter's friend's position).

STEP #1: BLEACHING your hair. This removes most of the pigment of one's hair, but will leave a residual tone ranging from pale yellow to bright orange, depending on the hair's natural base. To finish the lightening process, move on to the crucial and oft-forgotten STEP #2.

STEP #2: TONE the hair with a mixture of developer and toner. I cannot say what would be right for your daughter's friend, but it does appear that she has very resilient warm tones in her hair. So, she'd want to go to the local beauty supply store and ask them to help her pick out a toner for a double-process blonding. She wants COOL or ASH tones (these terms symbolize the same thing...anything blue or violet toned will help counter the brassy golds of her hair's state right now). So colors like "lightest ash blonde" are a safe bet. Make sure the clerks help her through the process of finding a good developer and toner and deciding on the timing. P.S. Clairol makes a great line of toners and developers.

AFTERWARDS:
If she still has brassy tones, she can use Clairol ShimmerLights shampoo every other day to tone them down. It's a dark purple conditioning shampoo in a dark purple bottle.

Well, good luck to her. I've bleached my hair many times with gorgeous success, but you must remember STEP #2, which is TONING.
