Subject: My convention madness...

Attended CNAnime/SFX/whatever, where Jhonen made an appearance. Saw the panel, which was good, other than Jhonen feeling that Toronto smells like hot dogs and cigarettes; odd, since we've got very strong smoking laws (I blame the hot dogs on the four vendors parked right in front of the con centre and the con centre having shitty ventilation). Then again, maybe he's not used to the mega-humidity and being dead centre in a city that size, I dunno. It's funny, because he was listed as an "also appearing" so I don't think the con was really expecting the turnout for him, but he got a lot of people showing up.

Anyway, I'm not one to wait in line for an autograph, so I chatted up the other SLG people; Dan Vado seemed like a nice guy, as did the others there. On sunday myself and some friends used, um, unorthodox methods to say hello to Jhonen, which actually seemed to amuse him (in the good way), which was good. Probably a refreshing change from the line of black-clad and spiky congoers; not that I have anything against that, being one who wears a lot of black and silver myself, but it felt like a lot of people were so decorated just to prove something to the convention and Jhonen, I guess.

Otherwise, the usual con stuff; all the big guests costed extra money, which wasn't going to happen: James Marsters actually was charging $80 to $625 (no, that's not a typo) for any of his four appearance packages. I ended up running into him in the men's room, oddly enough. Seemed nice (chatted quickly once we were out, so all proper bathroom ettiquette followed) and he seemed as nice as one can ascertain from 30 seconds of conversation. Elijah Wood and Clive Barker were there too, but again, they costed exrta money and were mobbed by people, and frankly, I can't care that much about any celeb.

Now, school begins again - teaching classes to first years, in all likelyhood. I'll have to find ways to scare them.

Oh, and I'll posts snippets of Vegas adventures at some time.
