The female's ears lifted along with her head, gold-flecked eyes scanning the dark surrounding area. Black hue stood for a moment, muscles quivering beneath her pelt of midnight ash. Nostrils flared as her muzzle erected to gather the scent, to track down the unknown in the dark. She lowered her stance, keeping a close eye on the protruding blackness that enveloped Sampson's form as he walked. She sensed change. Change polluted the air they breathed. What was it that hid within the shadows?
