JaRene,

I am sorry to hear that your family has been impacted directly by the tragedy at V-Tech. My heart has broken repeatedly for each of the families who lost loved one. My heart breaks for the students at V-Tech and the surrounding community.

I understand your frustration with Idaho Falls campus appearing to be an after thought when it comes to main campus. I wish I had some great idea on how to wake them up down there. There is no doubt that our fees are as high as Poky students, without many of the benefits.

I believe that because Idaho Falls campus is comprised of more than 60% non-traditional students we lack a voice on main campus. As non-trads we have many responsibilities outside of school and therefore must be selective where we put our energries. This leaves us in a weak position when it comes to having a voice on main campus. Hell, who has time to fight for a voice in Poky when there is homework to be done, kids with needs, a home, a job and extended family needed attention? I won't mention bill collectors, friends, time for exercise or even to relax with a good book.

Yet, we must find a way to be heard, not only for tragedies like V-Tech but also other reasons such as class availabiility in Idaho Falls. Ultimately, we are a valuable asset to ISU and should be treated as such.

Hope that you find peace with your daughter's friend.

Thanks for allowing me to vent for a few minutes.

Karla
