I didn't mean to start a rumble. :-) I really appreciate all of the information that you have posted. I will explain myself a little further. I am an avid outdoor athlete / triathlete. I enjoy everything that has to do with the outdoors and was absolutely loved a recent paddle in a friend's kayak. I am a new teacher =(have very little extra at the end of the month) and was hoping to use a kayak as a way to release a little tension at the end of the day. During the summer, I work in the UP and would like to use the kayak to travel and camp around the St. Mary's River and Canada. I have been looking at the perception carolina 14.5 with a rudder from backcountry.com but can not afford their price or any decent touring boat for that matter. I was hoping that someone might have some insight to a used sea kayak someplace. I was looking at a fiberglass touring kayak but in all of my research, I decided that the places I would like to paddle and my current kayaking skill level (0) would not be good to the keel of a glass boat. The rudder issue, I had used the rudder on my friends boat and found that it was much easier to turn using it rather than through just leaning or increased paddling. Anyway, I guess I am looking for something plastic/molded (because I will probably scratch it up) that has 2 hatches/bulkheads, rudder or the option for a rudder, and any unused gear that would work would be a big plus. That and my limits for spending are at 400-600. Again, I thank you both for your comments. If you know anyone with an available kayak that kind of meets what I am looking for, I would be most greatful. Ben [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
