First I have to say that I agree with your comment about being the last on the boat. I had mentioned this to Wapiti, but sorry I fogot to include it in my message above. Yes you will want to make sure your gear is well secured on your pack, because your pack gets thrown into a pile with everyone elses. I will recommend that half get on early to save seating while the other half gets on last to put our bags on top of the pile. Also when we get to shore try to be the first off and move to the end of the line, because they will have us all line up and hand our packs down the line and throw them in another pile at the end of the dock, if we are at the end we can stack our packs beside the pile instead of in the pile with everyone elses, then be the first to get our packs, and then be the first to fill out our permits.
Second, there is only one campground/campsites on the north island, and we are not staying there. On the north island we can camp almost anywhere as long as it is, I believe, 300 feet from the shore and trails.
And yeah Government that sounds like the place, I would recommend omelets for breakfast everyone.
