Date Posted: 03:24:39 07/22/04 Thu In reply to: Recondo 's message, "North Manitou Island Hike" on 08:48:40 07/17/04 Sat I agree with everything Goverment said. Last time I visited N. Manitou the ferry people were kind of hard on all packs. I don't think they ever grabbed a pack by a haul loop. The map at the NPS website is quite crude As I read my 2000 trip journal (it's on my website) I think the bugs that first night were easily on par with those of the St. Marys river at Sand Island. Right now I'm waffling between using my Tarptent or going whole hog with the Stephenson. If you go with a tarp make sure you have good bug netting too and/or bivy sack. My recollection was that they only really got horrific nearer sunset. However, we didn't explore the interior of the island so who knows what that's like. This visit is going to be just over 4 years from the last one. I'm looking forward to it. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
