Chapter 235 (S)

Nikita teased him repeatedly instead as she ran her hand languidly up and down his torso. The feel of his soft wool sweater against her fingertips, although sensuous, was hiding what lay beneath. She’d already felt the elevated heartbeat beneath his pullover … but she wanted to feel the treasure hidden beneath. Teasingly her hand glided up under Michael’s sweater then fumbled with the hem of his t-shirt. Eventually her fingers felt warm, vibrant skin and she trailed her fingertips over the ridges of his stomach causing him to clench his abdominal muscles. Her fingers were on a quest. It had been so long since she’d had this kind of intimacy with Michael, and Nikita wanted to take it slowly in reacquainting herself with his body. She scraped her fingernails across the defined sections of his physique leaving a quivering impression wherever her nails went while nearly driving Michael out of his mind.

Her fingers raked over his ribs towards his nipples until they lightly touched the hardened nubs. Nikita tweaked them rubbing her fingertips lightly over the sensitised skin. Michael sighed as her fingers worked their magic on his flesh feeling her touch to his very bones. He nearly capitulated to her charms; for what she was doing was making him go insane. Recognising his laboured breathing, Nikita glided her hand back over his chest but stilled her movement when she felt the bandage still covering his wound. Michael shuddered when he felt the lightest of contact to where he’d been injured.

Nikita caught his intake of breath. Her eyes darted to his face and held his passion glazed eyes with her own. She leaned back and whispered, “Does it still hurt?” Concern laced her voice.

Michael stumbled to find the right words. It was aching after such a long drive but his body was aching far worse than his wound. He was strung as tight as a bow because of what Nikita had been doing to him. He was ready to explode like a firecracker but her temporary halt had given him the timeout necessary to take stock of the situation. He didn’t have the heart to tell Nikita the truth … so he lied. “No … not that much.”

Biting her lip in anticipation of his answer, she was relieved at what he’d said. “I’m glad.”

Then sitting up Nikita, held Michael’s gaze with an intensity that made him take note. He saw the telltale tremor of her lips as her next words were uttered in a breathless whisper, “I love you Michael.”

Michael was deeply moved as Nikita’s words floated to his ears with a promise of a thousand tomorrows. He knew at that moment that she was well and truly on the road to a mental recovery from the atrocities of the mission. He wanted to ravish her then and there and forget about the comfortable bed waiting for them upstairs. However, Michael needed to think rationally before his irrational senses overpowered his commonsense. Unable to resist this beautiful temptress; he stood up, holding his outstretched hand towards hers. Clasping her hand in his, Nikita stood up, albeit on wobbly legs, next to him recognising the same agonising need in Michael’s eyes. He had read her deepest inner thoughts, for they were his as well. They may not have a thousand tomorrows but they had tonight and every other night they were here at the farmhouse. It was all they had to hang on to moreover Michael vowed to make their two weeks together one to never forget.

Since they had left Section One this morning their day had gone past in the blink of an eye. It seemed like eons ago since they had left Med Lab and they had been totally unaware of the concept of time since arriving at the farmhouse. Their day had gone past so fast and their leaving Section was all a blur to them now. An old-fashioned clock tick-tocked on the mantelpiece above the fireplace, heralding the lateness of the hour for the time had systematically chipped away for the travellers and Nikita was surprised, though not disappointed, at how long they’d been downstairs. It was well past midnight when she and Michael eventually headed upstairs.

Holding on to her hand, one by one he extinguished the lanterns around the room until only two lanterns remained. Picking them up, he handed one to Nikita before clasping the other in his free hand. Michael then led Nikita towards the staircase going up to the second landing with each carrying one lantern in their hand. Without speaking they quietly made their way upstairs. Michael went up the stairs first and Nikita followed in his footsteps knowing there was no turning back.

Tonight would be just the beginning. Finally they would be able to be a normal couple away from the prying eyes of all at Section One.

Tonight was theirs to remember.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Her heart was hammering. Suddenly Nikita felt a little anxious, but it was a nervous tension she was anticipating very much. As they moved further away from the fire glow of the lounge room, the only illumination provided was from the flickering lanterns they held in their hands on the dim stairway. Nikita wondered what Michael was thinking because her thoughts were in overdrive. He hadn’t replied to her declaration in kind but his actions were all that she needed to know that Michael’s intentions were on the same page. Following him up the stairs she couldn’t help but notice his broad back and strong torso hidden beneath his pullover. Nikita’s eyes also roved over his delectable derričre in his corduroy pants with appreciation. However, glancing down at their entwined hands was her undoing. She bit her lip as her mind filled with wonderful thoughts of what might happen next. It was liberating but at the same time Nikita was in a quandary as she weighed up the pros and cons of the intimacy she hoped to share tonight. If she was to go on what had happened downstairs they would be ripping each other’s clothes off the moment they entered the bedroom. Her mind filled with memories too of past conquests of each other's body and the pleasure they found in each other’s arms. This thought brought a rush of blood to her face and the warmth of her cheeks seemed to glow in the dark.

Michael’s premature calling a halt to their caresses downstairs had not been what Nikita had wanted to happen. On the contrary, she would have been ecstatic if Michael had gone that one step further. Her senses had been teetering on the brink of capitulation and she would have welcomed Michael’s ravishment, but in hindsight, things may have escalated just a little too fast for them. She had forgotten about his injury and when he pulled away she realised that it must hurt more than he’d let on. But she’d seen the agonizing look in his eyes. He wanted her too. There was no denying that Michael would be a willing participant in any lovemaking between them but Nikita also knew that putting extra pressure on his injured upper body could hinder his recovery. It was a problem but there would be a way around it. They’d been inventive in the past and she was sure Michael would find a way this time as well. Nikita forgot to breathe. This was the moment she‘d been waiting for … hungered for. Everything before this moment was a prelude to the main attraction. She was just moments away from experiencing the greatest joy in her life … making love to the man she loved.

She followed Michael up the stairs in anticipation of what would unfold once they were in the bedroom. Her eyes couldn’t help but rove from Michael’s muscular back to the flickering lantern she held in her hand. Each step she took brought her closer to realizing the fantasy she’d held close to her heart. Perhaps tonight would be the beginning for her to make her fantasies become a reality, after all they had two glorious weeks to be themselves and do what they wanted without Section looking over their shoulders. However, they’d primarily come here to convalesce and she knew this was the perfect place for that to happen. Erasing from her mind the atrocities of the past would not be easy, but with Michael’s support they both would heal. Her only regret would be when they had to leave and return to the Rising Dragons’ mission, that's why they would need to make each day a new memory to treasure. The time would go quickly but they would live one day at a time and make each moment count.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

When they reached the landing Michael turned towards Nikita and took her hand in his. Smiling shyly, her lips parted as though she wanted to say something, but Michael squeezed her hand lightly hushing any talk. Although he said nothing, the simple gesture of entwining his hand with hers, spoke volumes. Slowly, he rubbed his thumb over her knuckles and fixedly held her gaze. The fire in Michael’s eyes when he looked at her with such intent caused a heat to exude through Nikita’s body. She understood perfectly. He didn’t need the words to communicate to her just what he was thinking at this moment. Michael wanted her too. Dropping her gaze to their linked hands, Nikita’s fingers curled around his and squeezed softly.

With each lost in their own thoughts, Michael led her into the simply decorated bedroom, where they would sleep. The stillness of the night surrounded them, while the quietness in the room was exaggerated only by the steady beat of their hearts. In the muted light Nikita cast her eyes around the room before resting them on the inviting bed which dominated in the centre of the room. It was cosy and intimate and Nikita knew it was perfect. Being at this farmhouse … in this room … would somehow make their intimate moments seem more real. They would be able to be more like any normal couple, although they were far from it. Turning towards her, his knowing gaze encapsulated Nikita from head to toe in a spellbinding caress, then raising her hand to his lips, Michael placed a chase kiss to her palm. It was only a small gesture, but she was in such a heightened sate emotionally that any tiny show of affection was massive. Nikita’s legs felt as if they would buckle from beneath her. As his gaze swept over her once more, Michael reluctantly let go of her hand and walked over to the left side of the bed placing his lantern on the bedside table. The chair next to the bed creaked with his bodyweight as he sat down and removed his boots which thudded softly on the floor.

Catching her breath, knowing what Michael was doing, Nikita hesitated a moment before entering further into the room. She was a little nervous and cast a quick glance his way to see if he had removed any other article of clothing but glad that he hadn’t. Skirting the foot of the king sized bed she sat on the opposite side and with trembling hands placed her lantern down on the side table also. Craning her neck around, Nikita tentatively smiled at her partner’s profile as Michael regulated his lantern. She was floating on air, but somehow she found her voice in a mouth that was strangely tongue tired.

“Michael?”

Adjusting the knob on the base of the lantern he caused the flame to flicker momentarily and then stabilize creating an extra glow in the room. Michael turned around to look at Nikita at the opposite side of the bed allowing him to see her face more clearly. Her cheeks were rosy and it appeared that her breathing was a little shallow. Michael was inwardly smiling at Nikita’s reaction to his nearness, but she was too far away for his liking.
"Yes?” He held her gaze in the muted light and his fixated stare sent Nikita’s senses reeling.

The sexiness of Michael’s accent washed over her at his reply. Why did he have to do this to her every time? This man was the devil incarnate. The slightest intonation in his voice turned her insides inside out. The affect he was having on her senses was immeasurable and the butterflies in her stomach suddenly decided to go haywire. Michael’s handsomely chiselled features were illuminated in the glow of the lantern and Nikita was suddenly uncertain as to what they would do. He was injured. She was injured. She didn’t want to aggravate his wound and set his recovery into remission. Nikita knew when they made love it was an explosive experience physically and emotionally. There were no holds barred and now she was apprehensive.

She bit her lip and worry laced her words. “How is this going to work?”
