For anyone who is interested, Les Miserables is being released on dvd and will be available on 4/24/07. This will include the 1935 version which stars Fredric March as Valjean and Charles Laughton as Javert. The other is the 1952 version with Michael Rennie as Valjean and Robert Newton (our hero)as Javert. The price is $15.99.

TRIVIA: The 1935 version of Les Mis also stars Cedric Hardwicke who also played Dr Arnold in the 1940 version of 'Tom Brown's Schooldays'. RN played Dr. Arnold in the 1951 version.

Hi, sorry I've been away for a while. Thanks for all the alerts and news postings! Would you believe I still haven't seen RN's version of Les Miserables? I have it on tape, but, since I've seen pretty much everything else he's done that's available today, I'm sort of saving that one for when I need a new Robert Newton fix! (Huh huh, "Fix," get it?) Interesting coincidences, Sue!
