I heard that he liked to cook, what things do you thnk he liked to make? I don't remember very many English dishes from my childhood, but I do remember plum duff, which is a real dish and is very yummy. I think he might have known how to make it besides in Treasure Island.

He does look quite comfortable whenever you see him cooking in TI or the LJS series or even "Baker of Barnbury," doesn't he? As for what his real-life specialities were, sorry, but I have no idea. (I'd be interested to know though!)

Can you keep a secret?
When I was a little girl, about 6 or 7, I would help my mom out in her bakery, she made wedding cakes. She would put fondant on them and write the couple's name on them in iceing, I used to daydream about her writing mine and Robert's name on one. She actually had a real couple that were named Robert and Mary, which is close enough because I'm Mary Elizabeth.
I was little, I can dream, can't I?

Of course all 300 of us who are reading this chatboard can keep a secret! ;-) Just kidding. I'm sure it's nowhere near that many ... but I'm afraid the cat's out of the bag now. Anyone can read this board.
Anyhow, that's sweet. You certainly are a dedicated fan! (Since you were 6?? Wow, that's much earlier than me. How come my six-year-old nieces haven't fallen in love with him yet??? I keep working on them! They did say they liked him after watching TI And went around the house saying "Arrr" the rest of the day! But neither of them asked to have his name put on a cake next to theirs. Although I don't think they really could understand a word he said--I had to give them the synopsis as it went along. (And shield their eyes during that once-edited Israel Hands death scene.) Maybe if there'd been a Disney princess in the movie, on the other hand, it'd be a different story; that's all they care about. It also doesn't seem to have occurred to them yet that the people they see in the movies are *actors* rather than actually the characters they play. I've gotta work on that next. Although ... I can just imagine it now. "You mean, there really *is* no Long John Silver??" *sob*)

no, you can't do that! that'll burst their bubble.
maybe they should get subtitles.
I've been a fan alot longer than just 6, i've known "If sailor tales to sailor tunes..." since I was like 4
Most little girls want to be a princess, but I wanted to be a pirate's wench.
I went halloween costume shopping when I was about 8 and I saw a costume that looked like Putiry so i grabbed it and took it to my mom and told her that what i wanted to be. she put it bad and told me it was too big. well i grew up and saw the same one a few years later, it was a barkeep. i'm thinking, "i don't wanna be a barkeep, i only wanna be Purity". she had a tavern, not a bar!
i gotta go to school.

pms sux, but it helps to get out of school and talk on chatboards. oh, and eat a ton of icecream.
my little cousin is 5 and she was watching LJS with me yesterday and it was like every time he smiled she'd go "awwww" it was so funny.

Small world, I never wanted to be a princess either, but that's the big thing these days. However, it is encouraging to see them having their princess dolls take a ride on their rolling toy pirate ship. (In fact, every time they come to my house, the first thing they ask is can they play with my pirate ship!)
I don't think subtitles would help--they're still learning to read! (Even if they could make out the words, I don't think they could read that fast.)
