And I thought it was in Oct. So much for my dedication to pirates, huh?

Arrrr, right you be, Jenny mate! How could I forget--'tis indeed Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19)! Me hearty apologies fer not puttin' it on the calendar (I've been havin' a rum go of it the last week or two an' the date slipped me mind). Cap'n Silver'll have me walking the plank fer this (or leastways swabbin' the decks), an' rightly so.

(Seriously, a good friend of mine died the other week, and it's been hard to make myself think about much else.)

Except I don't think a real pirate would have said "darn"! ;-) (In fact, instead of the relatively "harmless" four-letter words in common use today, they got pretty creative with their swearing, going out on a real limb, IMO, by using religious oaths instead. One of the ones I remember from "Treasure Island" that sounds pretty authentic is when George Merry said, "Devil burn me!" And one of the real Blackbeard's recorded quotes was "Damnation seize my soul." They really liked to live--or rather die--dangerously!)
