Just wanted to say a belated "Happy Robert Newton Day" to you all ... It was 97 years ago last Saturday that Robert Newton made his grand entrance into the world, making the theatre, movie, and television world a much better place.

I really wanted to host a chat again this past weekend in honor of the occasion, but I discovered last week that the Beseen chatroom I had set up had been deleted without any warning. I tried signing up for a new one and never received confirmation. So I guess Beseen has gone completely out of business.

Meanwhile, I signed up with Bravenet services and created a new poll--I just haven't had time to add it to the site ... (Just a few more weeks till I finish my degree and will have time again to do some major updating here.) Meanwhile, I set up a really basic page here where you can go ahead and cast your vote: http://www.mooncove.com/newton/rnpoll.htm.

BTW, last night I was flipping channels and caught an episode of I Dream of Jeannie that I had completely forgotten about. Jeannie blinks herself and Major Nelson back in time, where they find themselves aboard a pirate ship. Tony's nemesis is a Long John Silver-like pirate who seems to have been attempting a Robert Newton imitation. There was definitely a Disney influence to the episode, with much more RN in his portrayal than Wallace Beery, that's for sure! Of course, the skull-and-crossbones hat made his get-up look more like a Halloween costume ... During the commercial break, they shared some trivia--that was Barbara Eden's favorite episode! (Not because of the pirates, alas, but because they got to shoot on location.)

Ahoy Susan!

I ran into the same problem with my chatroom on my Titanic site. I do like the idea of holding a chat session to talk about one of my favorite actors of all time. If you want to check out a pretty good chat service (I am currently using this one on my site now), you can go to http://chat-forum.com/ to get a free chat room, which is very simple to set up and use. Hope this helps. Btw, thanks for reminding us about RN's b-day!

Your friend,
Trisha :)
