Arrr! Just to let everyone know, the HMS Bounty will be in Greenport, Long Island, Sat July 27, and again in August! Its been in the movie Treasure Island - main reason Ill be there! So clap on sails and look sharp about it! It will be worth it! I wish us Robert Newton fans could get together, like a convention - neat idea, right???

Ahoy, matey! Right you be. Hey, wouldn't it be fun if a bunch of us fans got together and served as crewmembers aboard the Bounty? They actually have programs for us landlubberly types to learn how to sail. (Robert Newton had a lot of nautical connections in real life too, BTW. Besides his service in the Navy, I read an article that said as a child he thought it would be fun to run away to sea. And how could you not feel an affinity for the sea growing up in Cornwall?)

The HMS Bounty came to my town about ten years ago, so I got a chance to go on board then. It was really neat; it was the first time I'd ever been on a tall ship. Now I can more vividly imagine myself stowing away aboard the Hispaniola! :-) It makes you realize in what small quarters sailors lived. Then again, the frigate isn't one of the larger ships that was sailed back then, I don't think.

I did a search and found the ship's official website, in case you want to check out its schedule, history, etc.: http://www.tallshipbounty.org

(BTW, Bounty was used in the Charleton Heston version of Treasure Island. But it still looks pretty similar to the one in the RN version.)

Thanks for the info, Lorraine! Welcome aboard!
