Yeah, I saw the preview too. I was going to post something about it, but I wasn't sure what to say! I haven't been able to find much info about the movie on the Web. Disney's got layers of bells and whistles you have to get through on their site and this computer won't play any of the fancy media formats, but here's another webpage that has some still pictures and a brief synopsis (and a link to the trailer in Windows Media format):

It *looks* good from the preview I saw (love the artwork), but I agree: I wish they'd just re-release the original! I'd love to see it on the big screen again. And I didn't see Long John in the preview at all, did you? They seem to be keeping him under wraps. Probably trying to make Jim the main focus this time. I wonder how much the LJS character will evoke RN's portrayal. (Brian Murray does the voice, and the article says the character's part cyborg! Hmmm...)

BTW, according to the IMDb, Brian Murray is not the same person as comic actor Brian Doyle-Murray, brother of Bill Murray. Here are his other film credits:
