Subject: So ... seen any good Robert Newton movies lately??

It's been awfully quiet around here since the end of March. Are we still in mourning? It's getting to be time to start thinking about how we're going to celebrate RN's birthday on June 1! Any ideas?

BTW, I had this forum set so that, once you compose your posting, you have to *confirm* it in order to submit it. I wonder if that had anything to do with why no one has posted in so long ... Has anyone tried to post something, only to have it "disappear"? If so, it may be that you missed the second "submit" button (like I did ... till I finally figured out what was going on).

Since June 1st is a Friday, maybe we could set up our own RN movie marathons, arrange a 'chat', compose a special toast in his honour (with a pirate theme!).

Any other ideas out there???

Henceforth, once you hit "submit" the first time, your message will be posted. (If you submit something by accident that you didn't really mean to post, let me know, and I can use my special powers to delete it for you.)

Yes, movie marathon was one of my thoughts too! But we'll have to think of things that *everybody* has a copy of so we can all watch them at the same time. Gee, wouldn't it be great if one of those classic movie channels would air one (or more) of his films that night? (Some rare ones, preferably! I'm dying to see Temptation Harbour! Or Night Boat to Dublin! And no one ever shows Hatter's Castle anymore. Or The High and the Mighty.) Of course, being in different countries, we wouldn't all be able to watch them that way anyway.

Or ... we can each have our own private movie marathon with different movies and let each other know what we're watching. And then there's always the option of renting a real-life convention center somewhere and having a huge blow-out! What do you say we meet in Porto Bello? ;-) (I've been watching a lot of Long John Silver lately.)

I like your other ideas too! If we can't all meet in person, a chat sounds like the next best thing. And I'll be sure to wear my pirate party hat. ;-)

(Only problem is that I probably won't get home till 9 or 9:30 that night. But you could start the festivities without me, and I'll just be fashionably late.)

A member of my family appeared as an extra in this film, in the firing squad, so I am told. Does anyone know where I could get a video of the film
Thanks you
John

Hi, John,

Unfortunately, I have no idea where to find a copy of the video, but I would love to know! I've never seen it myself. BTW, did your family member have any memories to share about making the movie or about Robert Newton? I'm sure they would be of interest to posters here. Thanks!
