I was pleased to see the Hatter's Castle page on your website.
That is one of the many movies that featured my grandmother's cousin David Keir

He had been on the stage since about 1900 and made lost of movies when he got older. He was very short and so was rarely a lead.
When i used to visit him in London before he died (1972 i think) he told me many stories. One featured Robert Newton and the filmoing of Hatter's Castle.
David's character gets sacked by Newton's character early in the film and one day when Newton turned up at the studio, David was leaving. On enquiring why david told him that his scenes were finished. Newton - being much bigger than David, poicked him up and carried him back onto the set announcing that "as long as we are filming my friend David gets paid!"
