Did anyone else get to see Alfred Hitchcock on Friday (or any other time)? Well, if you don't get TVLand--you're better off buying (or renting) the pre-recorded tape anyway, if you can find it. One of the best Robert Newton scenes was cut to make way for more commercials! :-(

I don't think it's too much of a spoiler if I describe the scene (since it occurs in the middle of the story and it was deemed "expendable" anyway!), in which the blackmail-ee's wife confronts Robert Newton, as Peter J. Goodfellow. (Just skip the rest of this if you haven't seen it and don't want to hear about it ahead of time.)

I'm curious if everyone else liked this scene as much as I do:

Herta: "Listen, you, you've been freeloading around here for nine days. Why don't you blow?"

Peter [feigning indignation]}: "'Freeloading'? 'Blow'? How uncouth!"

Herta: "Yeah? Well, I can be a lot more uncouth. I've had it right to here with you!"

Peter [proffering the concoction he's been mixing]: "Have a noggin of this. It'll calm your nerves."

Herta: "I don't want anything."

Peter: "Oh, come, 'a jug of wine, a loaf of bread, and thou.'" [Grabs her hand and pulls her into his arms.] "May I have this dance?"

Herta [imitating his accent]: "I would rather 'daahnce' with an ape!" [Shoves him away.]

Peter [looking hurt]: "Very well, if that's your attitude, I think I'll take a siesta. I have a rendezvous this evening with a young widow of my acquaintance. She may be less pleasing to the eye [twisting a finger in his ear and rolling his eyes], but she's certainly more soothing to the ear."
