Well on September 30 we will have another version of Oliver Twist in the movie theaters. This time Ben Kingsley plays Fagin and Jamie Foreman is Bill Sykes. It will be interesting to hear comparisons to the Alec Guinness/Robert Newton version. There have been numerous versions of OT over the years but I still think that the best one is the 1948 version (and we all know the reason why!).

I'm sorry if this message appears two times in slightly different format. It didn't look as though it posted yesterday and I reposted. Just disregard my ramblings!!!

Well, you did mention Roman Polanski directing in the other post, so I approved that one too ... In case you didn't notice the new message up top, this board has come under deliberate attack by a very persistent spammer, so, unfortunately for all of us, I've had to resort to moderating the forum, meaning no postings can appear until until approved. (The other option was requiring logins--which one is worse?) However, I have added a second moderator, so it shouldn't take more than 24 hours before postings will appear in the forum. Sorry. :-(

Has anybody seen any of Jamie Foreman's work? He's got quite a lot of film credits but almost no personal data on the IMDb. The only thing I've seen him in was "Sleepy Hollow" as "Thuggish Constable," though I can't remember him specifically. Sounds like the sort of role that would be good preparation for playing Bill Sykes though!

I certainly have seen him before. The only one of his listed movies that I know I have seen was also Sleepy Hollow. If you go to the Oliver Twist website you can see a picture of him as he appears in the Sykes role. I agree that the Internet Movie database had nothing personal about him. I wonder why?!

Yeah, I always wonder where all that IMDb info comes from. I suspect for the photos at least, it's probably the actors themselves or their publicists who submit them; in fact, I think you have to pay to submit a photo, which is why there aren't more celebrity headshots on there. Not that I need to know his life story or any juicy gossip, but it's always interesting at least to know where an actor's from at least. (My theatre teacher disagreed with me that they're even relevant, but I always think the actor bios are the most interesting part of the program.)

Anyway, I got to the OT site (luckily I'm at the library, where they have decent computers). I think Ben Kingsley's going to steal the show. He looks really scary as Fagin! (I always thought Alec Guinness's over-the-top make-up job detracted from his believability. I think maybe they got it right for Kingsley.)
