This sounds like the house listed under this site's Links, Spend a Night at Robert Newton's House. You can see it as it looks now, run as a Bed and Breakfast.

Go into the main menu, where you entered the chat board. It's called 'Site Map'. Then click on 'Links', scroll down to 'Miscellaneous Sites', and then click on 'Spend a Night at Robert Newton's House'. It's quite a nice house. Good luck.

Sorry to hear you didn't get a reply from them. If it makes you feel any better, I e-mailed them before my recent UK trip to ask if they had any vacancy, and I didn't get a response either. (But then I can't complain; as anyone who's written to me probably knows, I can't keep up with my e-mail either.) Maybe you'd get a better response by phone? Hope you're able to get in touch with them. Thanks for sharing your story!

Hi, Geraint,

Thanks for setting us straight. I'm sure no insult was intended--I can't speak for the person who made up the subject line, but the slash between Wales and England gives me the impression that they are indeed separate countries (a comma would have been another story), and that they were mentioned together because Robert Newton's home, though in England, was very close to the border with Wales. (And the person who posted it was mentioning some nearby towns in Wales in connection with Robert Newton.)

Speaking for myself, I totally support Welsh culture, language, and independence, but I have to say it is a little confusing from this side of the pond to know what's proper, as I have had correspondence with people in Wales who give their address as simply "Cardiff, UK"--without mentioning Wales at all, making me think they're quite happy to be assimilated. (I was surprised by the omission and did feel compelled to insert "Wales" when writing back.) I don't know a lot about it, but it seems that, as in Northern Ireland and even Cornwall, there are strong feelings on both sides of the issue. Is there a good website you would recommend for people wanting to know more about the issue? (The ones you posted are informative but seem kind of general and localized, unless I'm missing something.)

Diolch yn fawr!

i have recentaly heard from my cousins son in longtown. so i guess someone got the message from the website to him
as for the gent from wales upset at the wales/english bit i did not set it up since being welsh i do know the sensitivity although sometimes i think its a little too touchy. my grandmother was born on the blackmountains the dividing line between wales and england .so i guess we can call our selves "semis" even though i was brought up in wales and yes do speak the lingo although over here (usa ) difficult to find persons in this small area to keep up with it
