First I must thank Susan for re-kindling an old flame! When I found this site, I was thrilled to see that there were others like myself with an interest in such a delightful and talented actor. I first fell in love with "Bobbie" at an early age and for the longest time was only familiar with TI. It was only LAST WEEK that I discovered what I was missing when I bought Oliver Twist. I was blown away by his performance. Then it was on to Jamaica Inn...I had never seen a young Newton and was impressed with many aspects. Okay, I liked the ripped shirt thing! (Hey, I can be shallow sometimes, can't I?)Then I discovered, thanks to this site, Odd Man Out. Actually found it on DVD...COOL! I am in LOVE with Lukey now. I can't say enough about RN's performance in that movie. Why bother with the beginning?!! Just skip it and watch his scenes, then turn it off and savor the satisfying feeling of having watched one of the greatest character actors EVER. Okay, deep breath.

Anyway, BRAVISSIMO Susan, for such an outstanding page! And where the heck can I get a copy of Obsession and the Alfred Hitchcock episode?

Peace and Chianti,
Erin

Hi, Erin! I'm glad you found the site. It's great to meet another enthusiastic fan. What a coincidence that we both first "discovered" Robert Newton through the same three movies!

Poor Captain Kirk was just a wannabe in the ripped-shirt department compared to Bobbie, wasn't he? ;-)

I'm so happy to hear that you got into Odd Man Out because of the site (even in spite of my poor review!). Coincidentally, I'd just rewatched it for a third time and was writing my all-new review, I believe, when you made your posting. It's a tough movie to get into when all you really want to see is Robert Newton's riveting performance, but it's actually an excellent movie if you're in the mood for something that will make you think. And I sympathized with Lukey a lot more this time around.

Oops, forgot to answer your question ...

Obsession is available under the title The Hidden Room at www.moviesunlimited.com ... do an actor search on Robert Newton, and you'll come up with a whole list of rarities.

There was a commercially available video series of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, with "The Derelicts" appearing on Volume 1, but it's out of print now (although some rental shops might still carry it). The series is currently being aired on the TVLand network weekdays at 12:30 p.m. (EST). "Derelicts" was just on a couple of months ago; they're sure to get around to showing it again, as long as they keep the series on the air! You can check the TVLand schedule here: http://www.tvland.com/schedule/TVL_weekly.jhtml?day=2&zone=

I am very glad you discovered Susan's wonderful site. Great isn't it? Don't be a stranger ok? Come by and visit often, as there is always something new here. A few of us regulars are Bobbie fanatics and would like nothing more than to have a new recruit to discuss his movies etc. If you have any questions or comments about Bobbie or his movies, ask away....!!

Hope to hear from you again Erin!
