While I agree with what Emma said, I still think that even the "non-auditioned" groups should be auditioned. What I mean is, we shouldn't confused the term "non-auditioned" with "open enrollment." I think that even if you have an open-enrollment group (which every school should have), you should still hold auditions in order to properly place the musician as well as monitor their progress. I guess what I'm saying is, I really think yearly auditions are very necessary for both open-enrollment AND audition-only ("select") ensembles.

I do agree that all the students should audition no matter how long they have been in the ensemble. The student may have changed over the year for the better or the worse. There could also be new students that audition better than the person who has been in it for many years. Then the audition could help in the placement of the student in the ensemble.
