Subject: Recorder for children with cerebral palsy

I'm currently working on my Junior Block at an area elementary school, and I'm curious to find out what you think may be a possible solution to a difficulty I'm having.

There is student with cerebral palsy in the fourth grade general music class. The school ordered a specially equipped recorder for him at the beginning of the year when they realized that he would not be able to play a regular recorder. But it is February and the special recorder has yet to come in. My cooperating teacher occasionally has me try to work with this student to help him try to use a regular recorder. I've looked up information about cerebral palsy and have gained more of an understanding about his condition, but not how to help him. Until his new recorder arrives, how is the best way to help him?

I think I would be calling the company and demanding a free special equiped recorder if it is not in yet! I have never heard anything more ridiculous. It sounds like someone is making excuses. I do not know your junior block teacher, but , I would make sure that he or she takes the time to try to research how this special student can be helped in music class. It sounds like she is giving you a big responsibility.
