My senior recital was a collaboration of pieces that I had worked on over the course of my four years here. I added a few new pieces toward the end, however I would find it difficult to pick ALL new music to prepare in such a short period of time. I am not sure what the standards are for instrumentalists, however as a vocalist we have to include a certain number of languages on our recitals. Your pieces may or may not have a connection to each other. Perhaps you could plan "sets" of pieces that are related. Could you include some of your pieces that you have been working on the past three years? Sometimes it is interesting after you have left a particular piece, to pick it up some time later and see where you stand. You may need a little polishing, however many times you may find the piece to come together better after having it rest for a period of time. I'm sure whatever route you choose to take, it will be a wonderful recital. Good Luck!

My prof. is mostly picking out my pieces and not giving me much of a say, so I don't know what to tell you there. But how do you decide whether a full recital or a half is right for you? I won't be requesting a recital upgrade for another semester, and that the faculty ultimately decide for me, but how do I know what is right for me?
