Subject: A Weak Bass Section

I am currently in my junior block teaching at Seneca East High School. I am conducting warm-ups each day for the high school choir. I have about 30 women in the choir, 4 tenors (2 of which are fairly strong) and 6 basses (all of which are VERY weak). All of the basses are very young (freshmen and sophomores). I know they have more sound than what they are giving me. How do I get these guys to come out of their shells?

I used to in a shell through most of high school. I was always afraid of looking like an idiot. The way I got out my shell was to do something that made me seem like an idiot, just for like 5 minutes of course. If I was afraid of looking like an idiot, and then did something that made me look like one, then what did I have to be afraid of anymore? Nothing. It seems like your guys are afraid of looking like fools in front of the girls. If possible, find a song that just the guys can learn by themselves and sing for the girls. Pick a love song of some sort. After putting on this one song concert for the girls, they should have nothing to be afraid of anymore. If the guys sing well, they will finally realize it was a pety thing to be afraid of singing out and looking like a fool.
