I think it's a great idea to have marching band count as a gym credit. Like gym, marching band was a semester course at my highschool, but unlike our gym classes, marching band got things accomplished. The PE courses at the school I came from were a joke. However, in marching band, we were outside in the mornings AND at our evening rehearsals (in the hot, in the cold, in the rain), we had band camp for 2 weeks out of the summer, and there was a lot of hard work and sweating going on. I think there's more physical work done in our marching band than in my own high school's gym classes. This is my opinion formed about my own high school; I can't judge other schools' programs as well.

I think that giving Marching Band gym credit is a good idea. Although I think that the marching band should really deserve it. I know that my marching band did not do as much as many others and I don’t know that we would really have deserved gym credit. I do think that if the band does enough work to break a sweat, and because they do have extra practices and time put into it they should be able to get gym credit.
