At my High School I did not have to take gym because I was in marching band. I liked this a lot, gym was another period of the day just like band was which could have caused scheduling problems. To me band was just as athletic as other sports if not a little harder, because you have to march and play at the same time. But now i learned that my school is going back to requiring everyone to take gym which I do not agree with at all. Some students will not be able to do all the things they want in High School becuase of times the classes are offered. I think my school should go back to the old way because we get the same amount of exercise in band that we would in gym, and possibly learn more too.

I don't feel marching band should be considered a gym credit because it really isn't fair to sports unless they got gym credit for being in sports. Marching band is more of an outside event. I know my band practiced more outside of the school day and worked primarily on music during school. I just dont think its reasonable for marching band to get special treatment.

But if marching band is actually a class like it was in my school then maybe it should be considered for a gym credit. Sports are an outside activity that does not earn credit, so comparing sports to marching band in relation to getting a gym credit is impossible. Its also hard to compare this idea because all schools are different.
