Legally, inclusion MUST happen in all schools. To have a class of only special needs students is actually illegal. So I guess what I'm saying is... we will ALL have classes and ensembles with students with special needs.

Over the weekend, at OMEA Convention, I attended several workshops regarding inclusion, music therapy, and students with special needs. I learned a great deal about this topic, but unfortunately, for me to type out all that I learned would take too long. If anyone would like to get together to talk about these kinds of issues, I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to share what I've learned.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about students with special needs and I've been wondering if I could tailor my career to work with these special learners more. Anyway, if anyone would like to hear more about what I learned, please be in touch with me, as it is a topic I love discussing!!!

I think it is wonderful that special need students are able to participate in music. The benefits and experiences music has to offer students should not be limited by such conditions. We had such a student in our high school choir and despite his condition, he was loving the experience and was well received by the choir and the teacher. There was really no change at all in the way rehearsals were conducted.
