I agree with what Nickie said about planning and timing of preparedness for the songs. Although if this proper planning does occur I feel that it is best to not subject the students to performing songs that are not ready. If they can perform the songs with music I would allow them to use their music, but if they are just completely unready to perform the songs on the concert, I would take them out altogether.

I would never allow my ensemble to perform an unprepared piece in order to teach them a lesson. Isn't that unethical?
