As much as time management is critical, I believe that sometimes things just do not go according to plan. As teachers, we need to be flexible with adversity and have a backup procedure in place. I would recommend watering down parts as needed and not excluding pieces unless absolutely necessary. Perhaps meeting earlier on the night of the performance would also help improve security. It is not something we want to do, but it is a reasonable alternative to either playing something terrible "as is" or playing something decent watered down or taken at a slower tempo.

As said above I would have a very difficult time putting an ensemble on stage if they were no ready. But also I agree that If a teacher prepares enough then you will probably ready for the concert by the time you get to the 1 week left period.
