I agree with Honoree that there shouldnt be a separate ensemble just for students needing to satisfy their gym credit. There arent enough students in high school that are interested in band to begin with, atleast in my high school. If a coach should come to me and ask me to pass the student you say no becuase acedemics come before sports and if they dont work in the class they wont pass the class, just like if they dont show to practice they wont play.

Just because you are a music teacher doesnt mean your class is any less important then any other. That coach needs to realize that his student is also yours- and if he expects the child to work, you also expect him to work. I dont think it should be an easy A class- but maybe a class geared towards music throughout history, or a focus on a type of music. Maybe not so much as performing? I remember in higschool there were people in choir for an easy A and it made me mad because i cared about it.
