Hi. I teach phonics using Ruth Miskins Read Write Inc programme. I think it is excellent and have noticed that lots of the elements are retained in the newer Letters and Sounds programme. You don't specify the age group which you work with so it is hard to give direct advice(I am working with year 3's- one groupwho are still learning pure sounds and the other are on to the next level).

If your children are able to blend then should also be able to seperate sounds. Get them to sit with their hands under the table and sound out a work (slowly at first) then say "show may". The children show the number of sounds they think they have heard. They can also show each other or be in charge of sounding out a work.#

We call this Fred Talk and have a picture of a robot with a
phonic eyboard on his stomach...the idea being you type in sounds (rather than letters)/.
