Dear Taare,
Apparently when they shot the last episode, the producers still didn't know whether WR was going to be renewed or not,
hence the ambiguous ending.
If the show ran again, then Christey would have been in a coma, only to die later on (Bisley did quit after all).
George was to take Christey's place (Sophie states this in the last ep).
The Network execs didn't want the show to end on a gloomy note, that's why they had Christey's eyes open for the last shot. All in all, you can safely assume Christey died in the last ep.
