M'kar's face was shadowed with a torrent of emotion, tinged with white, drawn. He pressed his hands more firmly over Tilana's, pretending not to notice the amount of blood that oozed through his fingers in a hot, sticky flow.
"Tilana... Tilana..." he murmured in broken sentences, "No... you- you... not your fault. Mine. Should have told you, but- You would... never understand, Tilana. Never understand..."
His jaw set, and in an expression that was anger, eyes glimmering with what might actually have been the verge of tears, he raised his gaze.
"You... you did this to her-"
Mortelia was gone.

"No... no, it's not alright!" Keira protested, and even as she did so, her eyes darkened, her hand went to her sword of its own accord, drawing it with a long, scraping ring. She took a light, catlike advancing step, carrying herself like a master of weaponry. She whimpered as though in pain, fighting against herself, but the struggle ended, and she lunged forward with a snarl, swinging the blade.
