BUILDING COLLAPSES: At least ten people died when a building in Nasr City, a suburb of Cairo, collapsed due to a fire. The collapse, which took place on January 26, injured at least 30 people. More bodies are believed to still be trapped in the wreckage. The building didn’t have government permission for its eleven stories. In fact, the government only approved it to be four stories. The block was ordered to be demolished 12 years ago, and it is not clear why the order was never followed through.

WON’T TURN AGAINST IRAQ: In late March, President Mubarak said that Egypt will maintain efforts to end the Iraq War and give diplomacy another chance. He denies that Egypt provided facilities to Americans troops, saying, "We do not take part in a war against Iraq or any other Arab country.”

IRAN STATES THEY WILL RESUME TIES: Early this January, Iran issued a statements saying that they will resume full diplomatic ties with Egypt. Egypt has not made a decision about this yet, but things look promising. The 2 countries broke relations in 1979 when Iran condemned Egypt for making peace with Israel. Relations worsened when Iran named a street after the man who assassinated Egyptian President Sadat. However, ties have been getting better over the past few years.
