On wendsday January 14, 2004 former mayor of Guatemala City, Oscar Berger was sworn in as the new president of Guatemala. Before he was sworn in he promised the country that he would clean up the government and the police forces.
In other news former president of Guatemala Dictator Rios Montt will be charged with two criminal charges of humna rights abuses. Starting January 14, 2004 he will be prosecuted for 200,000 deaths and Genocide during Guatemala's 36 year armed conflict.
On wendsday January 7, 2004 Guatemala and the UN signed an unprecendented agreement that would allow a UN appointed commission to help the organized crime and human rights abuses.
