1.Transit Strike Throws Italy into Chaos.
On January 9th 2003, no buses, subways, or trains were running nation wide in Italy because transit workers were on strike. The strike, arranged by of group called the Cobas, was over a payment deal from December. All the major unions settled payment issues with the government, however many small unions were not satisfied with their $103 per month raise. Unions have threatened more strikes if the government doesn’t meet its agreement.

2.Alitalia Walk Out Cancles 364 Flights.
In national Italian airports, on the day of January 19th 2003, 18,000 passengers were inconvenienced because of a strike held by national airline Alitalia. They cancelled 364 flights that day to protest Alitalia management is planning to lay-off 2,700 people by 2006. The cut backs are to help with the airline’s finical losses.

3.Ministries Ignore No Smoking.
The Codacans Organization promises that all-public buildings and are made smoke free in Italy. However, four ministries, Foreign Affairs, Interior, Treasury, and Agriculture, have violated the law. On January 12th an environmental authority took action toward them. The Codacans say that no one follows or enforces the law in the buildings.
