Pigeon-wing on asphalt,
Burst of something more than recognition with
This twisted thing that once knew how to fly.

Chuckle of black irony
For the mouse dead in the church parking lot,
Beady eye reflecting face of stone.

Lightning-flash remembrances of what I was
And what I could have been
Before disorder pulled me to the depths
Of its terrible, terrible truth:

Providence is for fallen sparrows.
And God does not exist for mice.
