But you have to be willing to bear down on them. Samson is much less hesitant than I am, and he makes the most vibrant things with his crayons. But, ever since he started trying to make representative drawings, he's been less bold and more easily discouraged when the picture he draws isn't the picture in his head.

I try to validate his experience - it doesn't look exactly like a cat, but I can see its ears and its nose - but I also want to teach him that, sometimes, things turn out beautifully even when they're different from what we expected.

And I want him to continue to color HARD.
