The last one of this 'thread', I promise...

And then there was the 7th grade Christmas toy drive.
My mother would not give me money for a toy;
Why should I buy toys for other kids when my own go without?

So I examined my sparse collection carefully,
At last picking out the toy that looked the newest:
A bright pink stuffed bunny, tacky little thing.
It wasn't even my favourite.

Next day I put it on the table with the other contributions,
Dump trucks and bride Barbies still wrapped in store plastic.
Some had the price tags still on.

"Look at this one, it isn't even new!"

Everyone asking, "Who brought that? Not me."
In the quiet of the recess hour I slipped it back into my book bag;
And so my lifelong sentence of self-hatred began
As I realized for the first time
That nothing cheap is ever any good.
