Hi,

my girlfriend was told that she has an anechoic cyst on her right ovary (4cm dia.). She has had scans, seen the doc who has referred her to a gyno.

It gives her a fair amount of pain just lately and discomfort. Can anyone tell me much about this condition and how concering it is?

thanks
Lucas

Hi Lucas,
the term "anechoic" refers to how it appears on an ultrasound; all you can see from the scan is the outer edge. these cysts are typically simple cysts, fluid filled with one compartment, and many resolve on their own. in fact, a lot of them ovvur because of a normal menstrual cycle during ovulation. that said, that cyst is getting a bit large and if its causing pain, needs to definately be watched a bit. has the doctor suggested any treatment measures or follow up for your girlfriend? typical course of action is follow up the following month unless pain increases (more on this later) and/or a suggestion of birth control pills, unless she is already taking them or this is a recurring problem. please watch for increased pain experienced by your girlfriend, and if things seem to be much worse or extreme, seek immediate medical attention for her. hopefully it will not come to that, but keep an eye out. i hope that you both get some relief from this soon.
if you need anything, please post and let us know.

my wife is suffering from kidney cysts (or poly cysts) in left kidney noticed in September 2010
largest measuring 2.3 cm , 5-6 in numbers
is their any cure for it or can they be removed?
Till now no ill effect is noticed due to cysts but i am trying so that she can be cured before ill effect
she is 27 years , 66kg , O+ , and pregnant

some one answered me that
"The cysts can be caused by the pregnancy. Leave them alone and recheck them after giving birth. They may dissolve on their own."

My thyroid gland shows normal size of the lobes. A well-defined anechoic cystic lesion measuring approx. 1.2cmX1.0cm is noted in the right lobe. Another cystic lesion with internal septas is noted in the left side of isthmus. it measures approx. 1.9cmX1.3cm. The color Doppler study reveals no abnormal vascularity within the lesion. No enlarged lymph nodes seen in the neck. No abnormal perithyroid mass seen. The neck vasculatures are normal.
My T3= 94.29 ng/dl, T4= 8.30mg/dl & TSH= 3.73 mIU/mL
Please let me know whether it can be removed by surgery or not. Is there any medicine in stead of surgery. It is noted that I am not in trouble or any pain with the said cyst.

thanks
Ranjan

this is because of my mother. she has a ultrasound and it says, the thyroid gland is within normal in size. a tiny (3mm) round anechoic focus is noted in the right lobe. right lobe=3.7x0.8x0.9 cm left=3.3x1.0x0.9 cm. impression= normal size thyroid with a tiny cyst right lobe...
help me please to interpret this.. is it serious?

thanks,
janet..
